The first attempt to send this bounced because I had included the
presentation slides (message too long). This time, I have only included the
ASCII minutes. I will attempt to send the two presentations separately.

Below find the minutes to the meeting of 25 June 1999. I have also attached
the powerpoint presentations that I made and that others had prepared.
(Although note that neither Bob Klenke nor Wolfgang Ecker were able to
present their slides due to time constraints as the discussion on the VHDL
200x scope took much longer than I anticipated and remains unresolved. This
issue will be discussed in detail at FDL at both the VASG and DASC steering
committee meetings. Both Bob and Wolfgang presented some or all of their
slides at the Wednesday night DAC Birds of a Feather. I cannot find an
electronic copy of Wolfgang's slides. Wolfgang can you email them to the
group?)

Minutes of 25 June 1999 VASG Meeting

Reading and approval of agenda with addition of IEEE awards for DASC by Ron
Waxman.

Ron Waxman talked about the availability of IEEE Computer Society awards
available to members of DASC. There is a range of awards from minor
(certificates of appreciation which the DASC chair can request) to major
awards. There are benefits to the winners of awards. Ron asked for
volunteers to help with identifying members of DASC that should be nominated
for awards.

The Carlson award is given to people that have been very influential in
standards work. Nominations are due in September.

Golden Core membership of Computer Society is awarded against a person's
profile. Awards build a person's profile for qualification in the Golden
Core.

John Willis and Greg Peterson volunteered to help and Greg suggested that
Ron contact Gabe Moretti and Dennis Brophy on recommendations.

'99 LRM estimated ready for review end of July.

Email to John Hillawi and Alex Zamfirescu discussing the reviews of 1076a,
1076-99 and 1076 w/ PLI.

Alex Zamfirescu moved that the VASG do anything it can to prevent
publication by the IEEE of a full 1076a document. John Hillawi seconded.
After discussion, Alex Zamfirescu withdrew the motion.

13 ayes, nays: Motion to complete 1076a made by Ron Waxman and seconded by
Peter Ashenden and Greg Peterson.

The P1076a (shared variables) status was reviewed. P1076a was submitted to
and disapproved by RevCom. A recirculation is required as there is no other
way to address some of the RevCom comments. Paul Menchini has addressed the
editorial comments and we are awaiting information from the IEEE to clarify
the form that the revised draft standard must be submitted to satisfy
RevCom. (Note, editorial changes are to the title page and header and
footers. They do not impact the technical content of the standard.) Steve
Bailey has begun contacted RevCom members with comments to ensure that our
actions will resolve all issues. Expect the recirculation to begin shortly.
See the chair's slides for additional information.

The status of the PLI group was provided by Steven Dovich and presented by
Steve Bailey with additional comments from John Willis. See the slides from
Steve Dovich.

Steve Bailey presented a slide on a proposed scope for VHDL 200x language
changes. Paul Menchini reviewed the guidelines used by the VHDL '93
committee (backward compatibility is the goal, except for new keywords and
when language changes significantly alter the semantics of an existing
language construct such that it would be better for compilers to report an
error than for users to experience wrong simulation results). Significant
discussion ensued with a few motions made related to constraining the scope
of VHDL 200x, but they were defeated.

8 ayes, 2 nays: Motion by Alex passed that all VASG members submit what they
believe the scope of 200x should be.

By acclimation Bob Klenke was chartered as chair of requirements gathering
committee.
