At the end of last week AIRE/CE was formally approved as an IEC NWIP
under TC93 (93/72/NP). Thanks to the many countries which supported
the NWIP and provided national experts. The Committee Draft (CD) is
formally due out at the end of September, 1998 with a late 1998 CDV
planned. Even if you are not serving as a national expert, anyone's
comments are appreciated and will be actively taken into account.
The NWIP includes VHDL, VHDL-AMS and Verilog support. The current
draft includes VHDL and VHDL-AMS. A new draft is upcoming with Verilog
(IEEE 1364) and runtime functionality. If you have interest in Verilog
or the runtime interface and would be willing to work on the applicable
tiger teams, please write.
By conventional, this mail reflector is NOT used for design discussions,
only generally useful information summaries. If you are interested in
one of the tiger teams, please write and I'll get you in contact with
the appropriate team (jwillis@ftlsys.com).
At the last (IEEE) Design Automation Standards Committee, there was a
suggestion that AIRE/CE be linked tighter to DASC than the current
coordination arrangement (I believed suggested by John Hillawi). IEEE
was originally rejected in part because of IEEE's inability to openly
circulate standards. EIA has been exceptionally supportive of the
effort and working with the group. If you'd like to consider any form
of tighter link with DASC, please write to Greg Peterson (petersgd@
sensors.wpafb.af.mil, AIRE/CE ballot chair), Steve Bailey (VASG
chair) or Patti Rusher (EIA Electronic Standards Director). Based
on EIA's strong support to date, abandoning EIA at this stage to become
an IEEE-only working group is not an ethical option.
It was exciting to see several AIRE/CE-compatible products shown at
DAC by leading-edge companies. In order to increase visibility for
the AIRE/CE effort, I believe Patti Rusher suggested distribution of
AIRE/CE placards at conferences.
There are several good informational articles and at least one book in
preparation on AIRE/CE. Thanks to the authors involved! Your efforts
are critical to explain a new technology.
Best regards, John
